Blarg saucers[1][2] are enemy vehicles piloted by the blarg in Ratchet & Clank and the 2016 re-imagined game. They are small fighter craft that accompany blarg invasions and space defenses, and are fought by Ratchet and Clank in dogfights. Ratchet can destroy these saucers to replenish his own ship's nanotech or ammo to then focus on the larger targets.

History

Ratchet & Clank

Blarg saucers first appeared in the Kogor Refinery on Orxon during "Traverse the wilderness", in which Clank destroyed two by sending Gadge-Bots into a machine that operates a turret destroying them.

Saucers were then fought in the skies of Jowai Resort, Pokitaru, during "Destroy the blarg ships", in which Ratchet flew the Jet Fighter using the Pilot's Helmet to destroy the blarg dumpers. Ratchet had to destroy saucers in order to replenish his fighter's health, as many would drop crates with health or ammo, and also to replenish the missiles for his ship needed to focus on the dumpers. Upon returning to Orxon as Ratchet, saucers attempted to shoot at Ratchet on the ground during "Explore as Ratchet" and "Catch the Infobot".

Saucers were fought once again in Drek's fleet in the Veldin orbit, in which Ratchet piloted a ship to destroy turrets blocking his path during "Find the coordinates for Drek's laser", and had to destroy saucers in order to replenish health and ammo.

Re-imagined

The 2016 re-imagined game is primarily an unreliable retelling of events by Qwark.
The re-imagined game primarily describes Captain Qwark's account of events. As Qwark is an unreliable narrator, and contradictory events are in-universe fiction (though those which correspond still apply). Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

In Qwark's version of events, blarg saucers appeared more commonly, replacing blarg bombers and blarg minifighters. Blarg saucers were first seen in the skies of the Tobruk Crater, Novalis, during the blarg attack, and a saucer damaged the bridge across during "Defend the planet". When Ratchet and Clank flew Mr. Micron's ship to Aleero City, Kerwan, they fought many green blarg saucers in their ship "Destroy the Blarg Armored Transports" and "Take down the Warship", destroying them to replenish their ship's nanotech.

Blarg saucers were encountered during the blarg's invasion of Fort Krontos, Batalia. First, a blarg saucer destroyed a bridge Ratchet used to get across during "Travel to the Fort", requiring Ratchet to jump across. Later, several were fought in "Destroy the battleships", in which Ratchet had to use the fort's Starwatch Defense Cannon to destroy the blarg battleships; the cannon had to destroy the smaller blarg saucers to charge up its ion cannon that could then destroy the battleship.

Later, blarg saucers were encountered in two battles with Ratchet's class-g Star Jumper. In Jowai Resort, Pokitaru, Ratchet fought blarg saucers while destroying the hydroharvesters attacking the planet during "Destroy the hydroharvesters", and had to destroy red blarg saucers to refill the teslarockets that Al had installed in the ship against the harvesters. Later, outside the Deplanetizer, Ratchet fought many saucers while fighting Victor Von Ion's battleship in "Take down Victor Von Ion".

Characteristics

Blarg saucers are small, round, grey fight-crafts with two cannons below, two long wings, a round chassis, and one large cockpit on top. Their twin cannons below fire either rockets or lasers. They are relatively fast ships which are also capable of pulling up in front of Ratchet's ship and following on behind while firing at it. When destroyed, they would either drop nanotech or ammo; in the original release, this comes in the form of crates dropped that Ratchet's ship has to pick up, though in the re-imagined release, they simply drop the items straight away.

In the original release, blarg commanders are visible in the translucent cockpit piloting the saucers. However, in the re-imagined release, the cockpit is either orange, green, or red, and pilot is not visible. The color of the cockpit in the re-imagined release determines whether it will drop nanotech or teslarocket ammo respectively; orange saucers will drop neither, green saucers drop nanotech, and red saucers drop ammo.

Combat

While piloting a ship or cannon, blarg saucers are easily destroyed with the ship's machine gun, and should particularly be cleared out first when focusing on larger targets. Whenever the ship is low on health, it is important to go out of the way to destroy saucers until at a comfortable level again, and then fire at larger targets. Additionally, when blarg saucers focus the ship, the saucers should be destroyed first to remove the distraction.

In the original release on Orxon, saucers while fire a continuous stream of rockets at Ratchet on the ground. They are best avoided, but can be destroyed with a Devastator, or alternatively the Visibomb Gun by staying out of range.
