Argonoids[1][2][a] are enemies in Tools of Destruction. Fought only in the Imperial Fight Festival, they are squiggly armed sapients, related to the argonoids and the terraklons. As gladiators in the arena, they were either captured or lured to Mukow where they were forced to fight for the amusement of the Imperial Army's most elite troops.[3]
As with the argonoids and terraklons, argonoids have a humanoid shape with long, squid-like arms for manipulators. The species has two red oval eyes, brown skin, and fangs curved upward. They wear metal gladiator armor, with robotic legs, and use laser pistols as their weapons.
Argonoids fire up to a long range, but have relatively low toughness, and their shots are easy to avoid. As such, long range weapons such as the Combuster and Predator Launcher are effective against them, while the Fusion Grenade and Shock Ravager are better against groups of them. Later on the Buzz Blades and Nano-Swarmers are enough to handle them.
Behind the scenes[]
According to their unused Galactipedia entry: argonoids originate from planet Argon and are a race of mercenaries, with their home planet seemingly being dirty and thus having poor living conditions. During the final days of the Phylax Intrusion, the Imperial Army grew desperate due to being understaffed and recruited the argonoids as mercenaries to aid them, resulting in their victory. However after this the argonoids refused to return home and became a freeloading nuisance for their employers. This resulted in Tachyon's second act after outlawing lombaxes to be rounding up all of the argonoids and shipping them to Zordoom Prison.[4]
The upgraded version of the argonoid are called argonoid captains. It is argonoid law that when an argonoid has destroyed 300 enemies they become eligible to become captains. Due to their prowess they are favored by the books at Imperial Fight Festival.[5]
The sweeper ships utilized by space pirates in the present day were originally argonoid vessels, utilized by their mercenaries during the Phylax Intrusion. These ships utilized zero-point energy and to sap the energy out of its prey.[6]
