The Obsidian Eye on planet Merdegraw.
Obsidian Eye is a device in Quest for Booty and A Crack in Time. Extremely powerful telescopes capable of contacting the Zoni, Obsidian Eyes are found throughout the Polaris Galaxy. The devices are powered by a Fulcrum Star.
Ratchet and Talwyn Apogee found one in Hoolefar Island, Merdegraw, built by Captain Angstrom Darkwater, and used it to locate Clank. Later, Ratchet and Alister Azimuth, using a Pollyx Industries database of all Obsidian Eyes, found one to communicate with Clank directly.

Quest for Booty[]

After the Zoni gifted Angstrom Darkwater, captain of the space pirates, a Fulcrum Star, Darkwater built an Obsidian Eye in Hoolefar Island, to contact the Zoni. Though the Fulcrum Star was worth a fortune, and though Darkwater is notoriously frugal, Darkwater considered it his most prized possession and refused to part with it under any circumstances, choosing instead to put a curse on his body that would bring him and his crew back as undead pirates should the Fulcrum Star be disturbed.[1] Darkwater ultimately intended to use it to find and pillage the Zoni dimension.[2] After Darkwater passed, the hoolefoids sealed the Obsidian Eye off.[3]
At some point, Pollyx Industries made a database of every Obsidian Eye in the universe.[4][a]

In Quest for Booty, after Ratchet and Talwyn repaired the wind turbines and the supply beacon of Hoolefar Island, Mayor Barnabus Worley showed them the Obsidian Eye, but it was unable to be powered as they lacked a Fulcrum Star.[1] After obtaining one from Darkwater Cove, the Eye was used to locate Clank, finding him in the Breegus Nebula and under the watch of Dr. Nefarious.[5] Once they used it and Ratchet left, the hoolefoids dismantled it.[4]
A Crack in Time[]
Ratchet and Alister Azimuth later located another Obsidian Eye in Krell Canyon, Lumos after finding the Pollyx Industries database in Axiom City, Terachnos.[6] Using it, Ratchet and Azimuth were able to talk directly to Clank, who was located in the Great Clock, but their conversation was cut short as the Fulcrum Star was cracked.[7]
Characteristics[]
The Obsidian Eye on Merdegraw was built with lenses carved from obsidian glass. It was known as the most powerful lorentzian telescope in the universe.[1][b]
Fulcrum Stars used to power Obsidian Eyes are stabilized, reusable black holes preserved in furian crystal. A Fulcrum Star allows astronomers to peer across unprecedented distances. They are legendarily rare and valuable, with only three ever discovered in all of history.[8]

As such, though the Obsidian Eye on Merdegraw is described as the universe' most powerful lorentzian telescope, it is unclear if this is true of every Obsidian Eye or if the one built by Darkwater on Merdegraw is stronger.
