Chief Alpheus is a character in A Crack in Time. He is the tribe leader of the fongoids on planet Quantos, and assisted Ratchet and Captain Qwark when Aphelion crash-landed in Zolar Forest.

History

Alpheus intended to dismantle the teleporter in the Zolar Forest village, which was the village's final piece of technology, but did not do so.

After Lord Vorselon's warship had been spotted, Alpheus moved to escort all fongoids to the sanctuary of the village walls, fearing an attack. The chief met Ratchet and Qwark accompanying Enessa and her children after the duo had escorted them home. As Enessa warned Alpheus that zyphoids had returned, speculating damage to the Great Clock, Alpheus shushed her as Ratchet and Qwark were listening, before hurrying them inside.

To thank Ratchet and Qwark for helping Enessa, Alpheus offered to help them repair their ship by enlisting the Zoni. After making Ratchet promise he could keep secrets, he directed them to the Temple of Zahn where the Zoni Vessel could be found, assigning the mission "Search the Temple of Zahn". As Ratchet found it inside along with two lost Zoni, he urged Ratchet back to the armory to find a third that had been discovered by the guards, only for Vorselon to attack as feared. During "Defend the Fongoids from Lord Vorselon!", Alpheus guided Ratchet to the teleporter back to Aphelion, as they were unable to prevent Vorselon from kidnapping Qwark and many fongoid villagers.

After Qwark and the rescued villagers returned to Quantos on an escape vessel, Qwark remained with the fongoids. Alpheus informed Qwark that Alister Azimuth, the rebel lombax Vorselon had been searching for, lived in the ruins of Volgram Pass on Torren IV in the Vela Sector, information Qwark then relayed to Ratchet. After also telling Qwark about the agorians and their hatred of Dr. Nefarious, Alpheus and the fongoids soon became exasperated by Qwark's company, insisting he leave immediately and paying the agorians to come pick him up.

Like other fongoids, Alpheus holds a staff that can be used as a weapon, firing energy projectiles from the blue crystal on its tip. As chief of the fongoid village, he wears a unique feathered headdress, with these same feathers also adorning his staff. His staff appears to be unique, as he can use it to open certain doors in the village and Temple of Zahn by inserting it into special switches embedded in the ground. Like other male fongoids, he exhibits a vocal tic in his speech.
