Alien spitters are enemies in Ratchet & Clank. They are relatives of the alien snappers encountered alongside them by Ratchet and Clank in the Blarg Tactical Research Station in Nebula G34 during they mission "Find the top secret Blarg research project", as well as in the Telepathopus Fields of the Blarg Research Outpost on Gaspar during the missions "Trade 20 brains for an infobot" and onwards. They are large creatures which spit balls of acid in long range to attack enemies.

The head of an alien spitter appears mounted on the wall of Zurkie's in Rift Apart.

Characteristics[]

Alien spitter concept art

Concept art.

Alien spitters are purple and green quadrupedal creatures with long necks, crab-like purple legs, fins on their backs, a single green eye, and a thin mouth with four tusks. They stay at range, spitting acid from their mouths to attack Ratchet. Unlike alien snappers, they will often stand from vantage points to attack, and will not attack with a close range bite unless an enemy is close.

Combat[]

Alien spitters are durable enemies, with powerful ranged acid attacks. They are most deadly when coupled with a large amount of alien swarmers and snappers, as those enemies swarming Ratchet from melee range make it difficult to focus on them while also dodging the spitters' acid. The best weapon against them is the Pixelizer, as it is able to catch spitters in their line of fire while also knocking back and dealing with the more immediate threat. The Proton Drum can also be deployed to defend against melee enemies while focusing on the spitters with the Combuster or Fusion Grenade. In any case, it is best to dodge the spitters' fire and focus on melee enemies, leaving the spitters until last, as their melee attacks are low and their damage is easiest to avoid of all the immediate threats.
