Alien spawn pods[1] are enemies in Tools of Destruction. They are metal objects that spawn both nanophytes and cragpoles.
Ratchet and Clank first encountered them in the lombax ruins, Fastoon during "Find the Lombax Ship Parts", when they spawned nanophytes. They were later fought again, spawning cragpoles, during "Escape the Cragmite Caves", in the cragmite caves of Reepor, and again during the cragmite invasion of Meridian City, Igliak, during "Save Meridian City".
Characteristics[]
Alien spawn pods are typically hidden underground until Ratchet approaches. They are cylindrical metal devices with an exterior resembling corded wire. The pods have a hole on top and numerous protruding "teeth", eight in total, with one half being larger than the others. When destroyed, they explode in a puff of yellow gas, leaving only parts of the exterior shell behind.
The pods encountered on Fastoon are mostly various shades of gray, whereas those on Reepor and Igliak are a darker blue-and-green shade, with faded yellow teeth.
Combat[]
When alien spawn pods appear, they are almost always already accompanied by nanophytes or cragpoles, and will spawn around half a dozen more. The continuous introduction of new enemies through spawn pods can be problematic if not stemmed. The pods on Fastoon are sturdy and not easily defeated, whereas those on Reepor and Igliak succumb very quickly to the much stronger weapons available. If ignored, a spawn pod will eventually finish disgorging enemies and retreat back into the ground.
Early on, a recommended weapon to use against them is the Shock Ravager, while the Plasma Beasts and Fusion Grenade are good alternatives due to their area of effect range in combination with the surrounding enemies. Later on, the Pyro Blaster is sufficient, which also works well against the cragpoles accompanying the spawn pods.
