Agnogg Buckwash,[1] otherwise referred to as simply the Novalis Chairman or the Mayor[2], is a support character in Ratchet & Clank and its 2016 re-imagined game, with a cameo in Up Your Arsenal. He is the elderly mayor of Tobruk Crater on planet Novalis.

In the 2016 game, Agnogg Buckwash has largely the same role, though he is also the uncle of the pro hoverboarder, Skidd McMarx.

History

Ratchet & Clank

Buckwash was first seen aboard Chairman Drek's ship, who was attempting to protest Drek's extraction of a portion of Novalis for his new world.[3] Drek gave Buckwash no choice, saying he would not withdraw his troops, and that Buckwash' only choice was to evacuate the citizens from the planet. Buckwash threatened that Captain Qwark would stop Chairman Drek, which Drek laughed at, as Qwark was working for him.

Captain Qwark has really sold out

Ratchet and Clank with Agnogg Buckwash.

Buckwash later landed on planet Novalis in a ship in front of Ratchet and Clank after the mission "Find a new ship", and gave them an infobot with coordinates for Kerwan out of fear, believing them to be torturers or assassins sent by Drek. When it became clear that Ratchet and Clank were merely travelers looking for a new ship, Buckwash relaxed, and granted them a Courier Ship for free.

Re-imagined

The 2016 re-imagined game is primarily an unreliable retelling of events by Qwark.
The re-imagined game primarily describes Captain Qwark's account of events. As Qwark is an unreliable narrator, and contradictory events are in-universe fiction (though those which correspond still apply). Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

In Qwark's retelling of events, Agnogg Buckwash was locked away in his ship during the blarg invasion of Novalis. Once Ratchet and Clank repelled the invasion, he exited his ship as it was safe, telling them that the blarg had invaded Novalis after his nephew, Skidd McMarx, had accidentally revealed secret blarg hydroharvester plans. Buckwash offered them an infobot with coordinates to Aridia, where they would find McMarx.

Later, when Novalis was destroyed by the Deplanetizer, the entire population of Novalis had been evacuated, meaning Buckwash presumably evacuated along with them.

Up Your Arsenal

Buckwash was seen watching the Secret Agent Clank movie premiere.

Characteristics

Agnogg Buckwash is the member of a species seen widely throughout the Solana Galaxy, with blue skin and black spikes on his head, similar to other characters such as The Plumber. He holds a walking stick, has small glasses, and wears dark clothing with a red cape. He also has a thick black mustache and thick eyebrows, though these appear grey instead in his Up Your Arsenal cameo.

In the re-imagined appearance, Buckwash appears slightly more regal, wearing brightly colored purple and blue clothing. He is also able to stand upright, and instead holds a gold cane.

Behind the scenes

Agnogg Buckwash' holocard mistakenly spells his name "Abner Buckwash".
